Het werk van Ellen Visschers bestaat voornamelijk uit sculpturen en installaties waarin kleurige keramische objecten gecombineerd worden met andere materialen zoals textiel, hout, plastic en brons.

De wereld van Visschers wordt bevolkt door vreemdsoortige, hybridische wezens: dieren met menselijke trekjes, of net andersom. Samen vormen deze bizarre schepsels een theater van de menselijke - al te menselijke - dwaasheden, angsten en verlangens. Voor helden is hier geen plaats, of het moeten helden op sokken zijn. Tragikomisch, zo kan je deze figuren in een woord omschrijven. Het heerschap ziet er zo zielig uit dat het bijna ondraaglijk wordt om er naar te kijken. Tegelijk heeft het ook iets grappigs, pijnlijk grappig wel te verstaan. Toch spreekt er uit het werk van Ellen Visschers veel mededogen.

Haar oeuvre reflecteert het spanningsveld tussen ons aller zoektocht naar het "ware geluk" en het onvermijdelijke falen van die tocht.

Elvis’ world is populated by strange hybrid creations: animals with human traits or visa versa. Together these bizarre creations form a theatre of human -all too human- follies, fears and desires. There is no place for heroes or they must be heroes on socks. Tragicomic is the word you can describe these figures. Yet there is much compassion in the work by Ellen Visschers.

Her oeuvre reflects the tension between our  search to ‘true happiness’ and the inescapable failure of that search.
